Stereomicroscope SMZ800N – Nikon

The Nikon SMZ800N is a versatile stereomicroscope offering an 8:1 zoom and up to 480x magnification. Its semi-apochromatic optics guarantee a sharp image corrected for chromatic aberrations, while its LED base with OCC illumination enhances the contrast of transparent samples. Ideal for demanding applications in biology and advanced research.

Features of the SMZ800N Stereomicroscope

The SMZ800N has an extended zoom ratio of 8:1 (zoom range 1 to 8x), higher than conventional models, enabling high-resolution observation. With 10x eyepieces and a 1x objective, the zoom allows 80x magnification. Depending on the eyepieces and objective (Plan Apo 0.5x, Plan Apo 0.75x, Plan Apo 1x, ED Plan 1.5x, ED Plan 2x), the magnification is 5 to 480 times. Semi-apochromatic optics have been adopted to correct chromatic aberrations across the entire field of view.

  • The working distance is 7.8 cm with a Plan 1x objective.
  • The parallel optical design means that ergonomic and observation accessories can be used in a wide range of applications
  • Trinocular tube
  • Diascopic base with LED illumination
  • Diascopic base with OCC illumination
  • Illuminator for epifluorescence
  • Double-lens turret

The acronym OCC stands for “oblique coherent contrast” (OCC), which is a form of oblique illumination method developed by Nikon. Compared with conventional diascopic illumination, which shines light directly from below, OCC illumination applies coherent light to the samples in a diagonal direction, contrasting with the colourless, transparent sample structures.
The new DIA LED base with integrated OCC illuminator generates minimal heat, consumes very little power and is durable. This illuminator can improve the contrast of uneven surfaces, such as that of an embryo
